Berlin State Legislature Infrastructure Bill and Friedrichshain Street Repair Timelines
The legislation sets out funding and schedules for road work that will affect travel times on streets such as Warschauer Strasse and Boxhagener Strasse from September onward.

The Berlin state legislature passed the Infrastructure Maintenance Bill on 3 July. The measure directs district offices to begin targeted road repairs in Friedrichshain using funds from the 2026 transport allocation. Residents who drive, cycle or use buses on the affected streets will see crews at work within the next three months.
Berlin transport authorities have listed Friedrichshain among the priority districts because several collector roads recorded repeated surface damage in the latest inspection round. The bill requires the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district office to publish exact work dates at least four weeks before each site opens. This requirement replaces earlier practice in which start dates were often announced only days ahead.
Effects on daily movement and local services
Commuters who travel between Friedrichshain and Mitte or Prenzlauer Berg will face temporary lane reductions on Warschauer Strasse between June and October next year. The legislation states that one lane in each direction must remain open during peak hours. Bus lines 300 and 347, which run along that corridor, are scheduled to receive updated timetables from the Berlin transport company once the work plan is finalised. Local advocates note that parents dropping children at schools near Boxhagener Platz may need to allow an extra ten minutes during the first weeks of construction.
The bill also requires the district to coordinate with utility companies so that water and power connections are not interrupted for more than four hours at a time. The Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg office has already posted a draft map of affected blocks on its website. Residents can submit comments on the draft until 22 July.
Budget figures and upcoming milestones
The 2026 transport allocation sets aside 48 million euros for district-level road projects across Berlin, of which 6.2 million euros are earmarked for Friedrichshain. The legislation requires quarterly progress reports to the state parliament beginning in October. The first report must list metres of road resurfaced and any delays caused by weather or supply issues.
Work on the first segment, a 400-metre stretch of Rigaer Strasse, is listed to start on 15 September. The district office will place notice boards at both ends of the segment by 20 August. After that date, further segments will be announced in batches through the end of 2026.
