Mitte District Assembly Approves 2026 Infrastructure Budget Amendment for Local Jobs and Services

The Mitte district assembly approved an amendment to the 2026 budget on July 7 that allocates 8.4 million euros to infrastructure maintenance and employment services. The measure passed after council members reviewed the district's capital works schedule and Jobcenter Mitte staffing requirements. It applies to projects within the Mitte boundaries and does not extend to adjacent districts.

The vote follows the release of the Mitte Development Plan 2025-2030, which identified gaps in local road surfaces and vocational training capacity. Council documents note that several arterial routes require resurfacing within the next two years to meet current usage levels. The amendment responds to those identified needs without reference to national policy shifts.

Changes to daily services and job support

Funding will cover resurfacing on Invalidenstraße between the main station and Chausseestraße, scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026. Additional allocations will expand training places at the Volkshochschule Mitte, with 450 new spots projected for the 2027 intake year. Residents who rely on these routes for work or who register with Jobcenter Mitte will encounter the updated schedules first.

The 2025 Mitte Economic Report recorded 3,200 registered job seekers in the district at year-end. The new budget line adds two full-time case managers at Jobcenter Mitte and extends the existing placement program by six months. These steps target the same group of residents listed in the report.

Next steps for implementation

Tender documents for the road works are expected to be published by the end of August. Jobcenter Mitte has set an internal deadline of September 15 to recruit the additional staff. District administration records state that quarterly progress reports will be presented to the assembly starting in January 2027.
