Berlin allocates €2.8 million heating relief to Neukolln from October 2026

Residents in Neukolln will apply through the district office on Karl-Marx-Strasse. Approved households receive up to 420 euros per year paid in two instalments. Local advocates note that the income cutoff matches the threshold already used for the city's existing Wohngeld supplement, allowing staff to reuse existing records rather than create new verification systems.

Under the act, Neukolln receives 2.8 million euros while Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg receives 3.1 million euros and Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf receives 2.4 million euros. The figures reflect the percentage of pre-1990 rental units in each district, according to data the Senate cited from the 2022 housing census. A single-parent household in Neukolln earning 28,000 euros would qualify for the full 420-euro payment, the same amount available to an identical household in any other Berlin district.
The government says the policy will process the first payments in October 2026. District offices will publish monthly claim totals on their websites beginning in September. The legislation requires a progress report to the Abgeordnetenhaus by March 2027.
