Neukolln Voters Decide July 12 Property Tax Increase for Youth and Elder Services

The Neukolln Community Services Referendum asks voters to approve a 0.5 percent increase in the local property tax rate. Passage would generate an estimated 4.2 million euros each year for the Bezirksamt Neukolln to spend on expanded youth programs and elder care. The change would apply to residential and commercial properties inside the district boundaries.

District officials placed the measure on the ballot after the 2025 budget paper showed a 9 percent rise in requests for after-school places and home-care visits. The Productivity Commission report on municipal services noted that Neukolln handled 18,400 such cases last year, the highest figure among Berlin’s twelve districts.
