Neukölln Infrastructure Measures Address Power Supply and Street Safety

Stromnetz Berlin plans to invest €78 million in a new power grid plant on Karl-Marx-Strasse. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, with operation expected by 2031. The project forms part of district efforts to maintain electricity supply for local households and businesses.

Traffic decisions from early 2026 also affect movement on several Neukölln streets. In February the district approved structural changes and stationary speed cameras on Waßmannsdorfer Chaussee to enforce the existing 30 km/h limit. In March the Traffic Committee approved a parking ban on Flurweg between Neuköllner Straße and Mohnweg and added a planned zebra crossing on Werbellinstraße.

Traffic and safety changes for residents

These measures apply directly to daily travel patterns. Residents on or near Waßmannsdorfer Chaussee may encounter new physical barriers and camera enforcement intended to slow vehicles. The Flurweg parking restriction removes spaces on that segment, while the Werbellinstraße crossing is intended to assist pedestrians crossing the road. In April the district considered eight infrastructure items that include safety work on Wildenbruchstraße, a truck ban on selected routes, and steps to improve access for visitors.

Neukölln is directing urban development and neighbourhood funding through the 2026 programme Sozialer Zusammenhalt. The programme supports ongoing district projects that shape growth in housing, services and public spaces used by local people.
