Berlin Directs 120 Million Euros to Transform Prenzlauer Berg Transport and Jobs

Residents who rely on the Eberswalder Strasse and Senefelder Platz stations will see two additional train sets added during morning peak hours starting in the first quarter of 2027. The same legislation funds three new training cohorts at the district Volkshochschule, each enrolling 180 participants in logistics and renewable-energy installation certificates that feed directly into contracts for the ongoing U-Bahn works.
Local service providers note that the training places are reserved first for unemployed persons registered with the Jobcenter Pankow, which covers Prenzlauer Berg. The legislation requires contractors to source at least 25 percent of their workforce from these certified programmes.
Budget allocation and next steps
The 120 million euro allocation for Prenzlauer Berg appears in Annex 3 of the bill, broken down as 78 million euros for track and signalling upgrades and 42 million euros for the training centres. The Senate Department for Finance has scheduled the first disbursement for September 2026, conditional on completion of environmental impact assessments already underway at the planning authority.
Procurement notices for the first civil-works packages are expected to be published on the state tender portal by the end of July. District assembly members will receive quarterly progress reports beginning in October 2026.
