Berlin Candidate Disclosure Amendment Delivers Profiles to Wedding Households
Wedding residents will receive printed candidate statements on housing, transport and local services before the September district vote.

The Berlin State Election Law amendment requires candidates standing in the September 2026 district assembly elections to submit standardized position statements on three local topics. The Wedding election office will post these statements to every registered household in the district by 10 August.
Why the change arrives now
Berlin’s election administration introduced the requirement after the state parliament passed the amendment in June. The rule applies only to candidates seeking seats on the Wedding district assembly and covers statements of no more than 300 words each. Officials say the documents will be printed and mailed at public expense rather than left to party campaigns.
Wedding contains roughly 45 000 households. Local advocates note that many residents work in health care, logistics and small retail along Müllerstrasse and along the S-Bahn corridor. The mailed profiles will list each candidate’s stated positions on rent controls, bus frequency on line 120 and the planned expansion of the district’s primary-care centre.
What the profiles contain and how they reach residents
The election office has allocated 185 000 euros from its 2026 operating budget for printing and postage. Each envelope will include statements from all 38 candidates registered so far, plus a one-page explanation of how to request an accessible audio version. Policy analysts say the format is intended to reduce reliance on social-media advertising that often reaches only younger voters.
Residents who have already requested postal ballots will receive the profiles together with their voting papers. Those who vote in person at the 14 polling stations across the district will find the same information posted at each location from 20 August onward. The government says the policy will not alter ballot design or counting procedures.
Distribution will finish by 12 August. After that date the election office will publish the same statements on its website in German, Turkish and Arabic. No further updates to the statements are permitted once they have been mailed.
