Aquatic Centres and Swim Programs for All Ages
Charlottenburg pools are adding sessions and lowering barriers to draw in swimmers from toddlers to retirees this season.
How we reported this
Charlottenburg aquatic centres recorded 1,150 new registrations for group swim programs between May and early July 2026.
The increase follows the opening of extended morning and evening lanes at two main sites, a direct response to demand from working families and older adults seeking low-impact exercise. City health data released last month showed a 22 percent rise in aquatic activity among residents over 50 since the same period in 2025, prompting the district office to extend subsidies for multi-age classes.
The Kantstraße Hallenbad added three weekly parent-and-toddler groups on Tuesday mornings and a seniors-only lane session on Thursday afternoons. A short walk away on Pestalozzistraße, the Charlottenburg Sports Hall pool now runs mixed-level adult stroke clinics on Saturday mornings and a free introductory water-safety course for children aged six to nine every second weekend.
Venues and schedules on the ground
Both facilities sit within the Westend neighbourhood, where residents can reach either site by the M27 bus or a ten-minute cycle along the tree-lined streets near Schloss Charlottenburg. The Kantstraße pool charges 9 euros per 45-minute group session for adults and 5 euros for children, with a monthly family pass available for 48 euros. At Pestalozzistraße the district covers the first four visits for anyone over 65, after which the rate drops to 6 euros.
Staff at both centres report that the new mixed-age format has reduced the usual drop-off after the first month. A July 1 internal count showed 340 people attending at least one session across the two pools, up from 210 at the same date last year.
Next steps for residents
Anyone interested can reserve a spot through the Berlin city portal or by calling the Kantstraße desk at 030 9029 1234 before 6 p.m. on weekdays. The next block of classes begins 15 July and runs through the end of August, with extra outdoor lanes planned at the Lietzensee lido if temperatures stay above 28 degrees. Local medical practices along Wilmersdorfer Straße continue to recommend checking with a doctor before starting any new water program.
