Pankow Expands Year-Round Swimming Programs Across Multiple Public Pools
Public pools in the district now run year-round group sessions that serve children, working adults and older residents on fixed weekly schedules.
How we reported this

More than 1,200 residents signed up for structured swim sessions at Pankow aquatic centres in the first half of 2026, according to records kept by the district sports office. The increase follows the addition of new early-morning and evening slots at two main facilities.
Interest in group water exercise has grown because many Pankow households report tighter household budgets and a preference for low-cost local activities over private gym memberships. District health reports note that regular water-based movement helps address common complaints of joint stiffness and reduced mobility among adults aged 50 and older.
Named venues and current offerings
The Schwimmhalle Pankow on Breite Straße added a Tuesday and Thursday Aqua-Mix class for ages 35 to 65 that begins at 19:30 and lasts 45 minutes. Two streets away, the Sportbad Französisch Buchholz on Karower Straße runs a Saturday family lane session limited to 40 participants that starts at 10:00 and includes a 30-minute coached segment for children aged 6 to 12 followed by open swimming for accompanying adults.
Both sites operate under the Berliner Bäderbetriebe schedule and accept the district’s 25-euro quarterly swim pass. The Französisch Buchholz location also hosts a Monday morning gentle-movement group limited to 25 seniors that meets at 09:00 and uses flotation belts supplied on site.
Numbers and next steps for residents
Attendance logs show the Breite Straße morning lane swim for adults now averages 68 participants per day, up from 41 in the same period last year. Single-entry admission remains 4.50 euros for adults and 2.50 euros for children under 14, with the quarterly pass covering unlimited access to all scheduled group sessions.
Registration for the next eight-week block opens on 14 July at the district sports office on Berliner Straße and online through the Berliner Bäderbetriebe portal. Residents can check current lane availability by calling the Breite Straße desk at 030 486 270 or the Karower Straße desk at 030 486 285 before travelling to either site.
