Pankow Schools Launch Mindfulness Programs Before August Term
Pankow schools now run structured mindfulness sessions for students at multiple sites ahead of the August term start.
How we reported this

Pankow primary schools added daily mindfulness blocks to timetables on July 1 at three sites, with the first sessions held at the Florastraße campus for 180 children in grades three through six.
The push follows parent surveys collected by the Pankow District Education Office in spring 2026 that showed rising reports of concentration difficulties after remote-learning periods. District data listed 620 students across Pankow schools receiving some form of mental-health support last year, up from 410 in 2024.
Programs now running on specific streets
At Grundschule Pankow on Breite Straße, teachers lead ten-minute breathing exercises each morning before first period using a curriculum developed with the Berlin Mindfulness Network. The after-school option meets twice weekly in the same building and charges 18 euros per child for the eight-week block ending September 30. A second site operates at the community center on Wollankstraße, where sessions for Niederschönhausen residents include movement sequences drawn from local yoga instructors and run from 3:15 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Both locations limit groups to twelve students and require registration through the school secretary by July 22. The Wollankstraße program also offers a parallel track for siblings at the nearby Kita on Greifswalder Straße, bringing total capacity to 240 children this summer.
Numbers behind the rollout
The Pankow District Education Office report dated May 12, 2026, recorded that schools using the ten-minute daily format saw an average 14 percent drop in reported classroom disruptions during the prior term. Materials cost the district 4,800 euros for the current cycle, funded through the Berlin Senate’s youth-wellness allocation. Parents pay nothing for the in-school portion; the paid after-school track covers instructor fees at 22 euros per hour.
Families can obtain registration forms at the Pankow Bürgeramt on Berliner Straße or download them from the district education portal. The next information evening takes place July 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the Florastraße school gym, with places allocated on a first-come basis.
