Pankow's Best Walking Trails: Complete Guide to 12 Routes
A fresh district assessment sorts Pankow routes by length and terrain to help residents pick suitable daily outings.
How we reported this
The Pankow Green Spaces Department issued its first formal trail ratings on July 1, listing five routes with exact distances and difficulty scores from 1 for flat paths to 4 for steeper sections.
Interest in measured outdoor routes has grown since the district launched its 2025 Move More program, which tracks participation through local apps and reports 4,200 registered users in Pankow alone by spring 2026.
Two routes stand out near familiar landmarks. The loop inside Bürgerpark Pankow off Grabbeallee covers 2.3 kilometres on level ground and scores a difficulty of 1. The longer option follows the Panke riverbank inside Schlosspark Pankow, running 5.1 kilometres with two short rises that earn a difficulty rating of 3.
Moderate routes near daily routes
Residents in the Alt-Pankow neighbourhood can reach the Schlosspark path from the tram stop at Pankow Kirche in under eight minutes. The Pankow Sports Association added a weekly Wednesday evening group walk on this route starting 15 July, limited to 25 participants and free for members.
Further data from the department shows that 62 percent of surveyed Pankow walkers in 2025 preferred routes under four kilometres, while only 14 percent regularly tackled distances above six kilometres.
Choosing the right start point
Anyone new to the ratings can download the district map at the Pankow town hall information desk or check the posted signs at each trailhead that list the July 2026 measurements. Beginners are advised to begin on the Bürgerpark loop before moving to the river path once they complete it comfortably in under 35 minutes.
